She uses classic and contemporary poetry in each workshop, tailoring the material to the group.  Poems by writers from different cultural backgrounds, by women, and by young people all help inspire new writing.  Each program is developed to reflect participants' interests or tied in to a school’s curriculum.

Bilingual and multimedia projects are a specialty, as well as interdisciplinary and  on-site programs with local non-profit organizations.

Writing workshops often begin by sampling model poems out loud to encourage new ideas. (Click here to see short practice poems for adult students, and for schools.) Groups then brainstorm together in collaborative exercises, designed to open the way for students to draft their own poems.

Through collaborations with administrators and sponsors, her programs often produce a group reading or a published anthology of participants' work.
